Practical Info

Practical information ...

Gidleigh Village Hall is the perfect location for a Summer Gathering. It is close to the moors and Scorhill Stone Circle. Great for walking. There are also places to swim in nearby rivers.

Accommodation: The hall has a level field out front where it is possible to pitch your tent and a there's also a place to light a fire. Beside the hall is a place where campervans can stay. It is also possible to sleep in the hall. You will need a sleeping bag and a mat for your own comfort. The kitchen is well equipped and perfect for preparing meals for large groups.

There are toilets/washrooms and a shower in the hall.

If you don't want to camp or stay in the hall there are places to stay (AirBnb or hotels)

in nearby villages such as Chagford. This will be at your own expense.

Food: On this weekend, we plan to work together on a rota basis to make simple healthy meals for the whole community. Food will be provided. This will all be vegetarian. If you have any special dietary requirements please let us know and together we will work to accommodate this.

Programme: We plan to develop the programme so there will be a mix of sessions offered by the community, free time to walk on the moors or swim in nearby rivers, social time to get to know other folk, time to cook and clear away meals for everyone. See the programme page for more details as they are available. If you might like to offer some kind of experience for the community do let us know as soon as possible.

Things you might like to bring): Pen, paper/journal; Cushion/blanket to sit on; Outdoor walking gear and maybe a brolly in case of rain?; Sunscreen and a hat if sunny.

Getting there: The hall is located about 40 minutes drive from Exeter along the A30. It is not easy to get to the venue by public transport. If you are driving we hope you might offer a lift to people travelling by bus, train or plane from the nearest drop off points. This will either be Okehampton, Exeter or Tiverton Parkway station (easy access from the M5). We will set up a way for people to communicate with one another so that car/lift sharing can be arranged.

Booking Info

booking information
... do you want to join us?

We have made the cost for this event as reasonable as we can. We are organising the event voluntarily. We will put the surplus (if any) towards organising future events for IBMT folk.

We think it will be popular so we advise early booking to secure your place. Once we have 20 participants signed up we will open a waiting list in the event that some people may drop out. We are sorry that we are unable to accommodate children or dogs at this event.

If you wish to join us please e-mail: summergathering2025@yahoo.com

We will let you know if you have a place or not and ask that you pay the full amount (£95 before the end of 2024 and £110 after that) by BACS. Once we have received a payment from you we will confirm your booking.

If you book and pay for a place and then change your mind we will give you a full refund if we have someone else on the waiting list.
